Girl's Trip

I leave in the morning for the seventh annual (for our little gaggle) BYU Women's Conference trip. Three days of shopping, eating, inspirational speakers, laughing, shopping some more (we skip class sometimes just like we did in college), eating some more, and no worries about homework, lacrosse practice, or cute, dirty bums. I will miss four little boys and one great big one, but I love girl's trips!
I'm off to pack adorable shoes that will make my feet ache, but I'm going to look good, baby. Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Hugs,
Cami

Jake Merrill was raised by his grandmother, Ruby, and her hilarious friends. After a suspicious death at the retirement home where Ruby lives, she enlists Jake and Chanel, the beautiful activities director, to help her find the killer.
But secrets Ruby has kept for decades threaten her family and the man she’s always loved but could never have. Chanel’s unstable ex-boyfriend, a presumably dead relative, and vicious criminals add to the confusion. Time is running out as Jake, Chanel, and Ruby desperately search for clues to solve the murders and fight to save those they love.

"Poison Me made me laugh out loud and thoroughly enjoy myself. I wish I had a friend like Ruby! Snappy dialogue, romance, and a strong sense of family made this book well worth reading."

Honey, Do You Need a Ride? Confessions of a Fat Runner - Book Giveaway

HONEY, DO YOU NEED A RIDE? CONFESSIONS OF A FAT RUNNER is a hilarious memoir of what it’s like to run with the gazelles when your shadow looks more like a walrus, and how running can get you through divorce, runaway donkeys, single motherhood, and size 14 jeans that won’t zip.
“Jennifer Graham tells our story beautifully, with unflinching honesty and laugh-out-loud humor,” John “the Penguin” Bingham said. And Kristin Armstrong, Runner’s World columnist and author of Mile Markers, says of HONEY, DO YOU NEED A RIDE? CONFESSIONS OF A FAT RUNNER, “Jennifer writes like an old friend speaks, in a voice you know and love. Her descriptions of running heavy, whether with added weight or added burdens, makes her experience universal to runners and non-runners alike.”

Belonging to Heaven by Gale Sears

Belonging to Heaven Descended from the Hawaiian royal line, Jonathan Napela became one of the first—and most influential—converts to the Church in Hawaii. A man of intelligence, social status, and wealth, he used his considerable position to further the gospel in his native land. He developed a lifelong bond of brotherhood with Elder George Q. Cannon, helping to translate the Book of Mormon into Hawaiian and establish a gathering place for the Hawaiian saints in Laie, Oahu. But when his beloved wife, Kitty, was stricken with leprosy, Jonathan made the defining decision of his life. He would leave his life of privilege to become her caretaker and spend the rest of his life on Molokai, the island of lepers. To those who suffered similar heartbreak and banishment, Jonathan's self-sacrifice became their lifeline. Based on true story, this is an extraordinary novel of a man who chose love in the face of death.

Excerpt

Catherine Keliikuaaina Richardson walked beside his son in regal splendor. Her brown hair hung in waves down to her knees. She wore a white holoku in the style that was part missionary and part Hawaiian. Long sleeves covered her arms and a high collar came up to cover her neck. The soft fabric hung loosely from a square yoke that was edged with white ruffles. On her head she wore a wreath of bright yellow
‘ilima flowers woven with ferns and the golden tail feathers of the o-o bird. Her golden brown skin glowed in the morning
light and the sight of her drove reason from Waaole’s head.

Jonathan chuckled as he helped Catherine and then his father into the carriage. He leaned over and whispered to him.
“When we are out of sight of the village we will take off our suit coats.” He climbed up, took the lines in his hands, and commanded
the horses to walk on. As he waved to the villagers, Jonathan smiled. It was a smile that felt its way through his entire body. Today was a good day.

Unbelievable by Sherry Gammon

Deliah Lopez Dreser’s in town to take care of family business. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, but there’s more to Lilah than meets the eye. Cole’s in danger of losing his heart when this firestorm throws sparks his way. However, is she simply playing him for the fool in order to exact revenge for her brother’s murders?
Maggie and Seth’s reaction when the truth is revealed pushes friendship to the limit. And this time around it won’t be a Dreser causing an uproar in Port Fare. It will be Cole's good friend Booker. But does Booker have it all wrong?  Usually not!

My Review:

I read Unlovable and Unbelievable back-to-back and just fell in love with the characters. In Unlovable Maggie is such a sweetie, I wanted to take her home and feed her. I love the three friends who are so close and each have their own stories to tell. At first I thought I wouldn't enjoy Unbelievable as much because of who the heroine was but I quickly became a huge fan of Lilah. I can't wait to read the third story and see who Booker falls in love with.
Thanks to the author for sharing her books with me and including me in the tour. Don't forget to enter the prize drawings.

Excerpt

When we got back to Tiffany’s, he walked me to the door. He cupped my face in his hand and leaned in inching his lips closer to mine. I’d never wanted anything so bad. He was so close I could smell the mint of his breath and feel the heat on my face, when he moved away from my face and hovered over my ear instead. Geez! What was he doing? Just kiss me already. He brushed my hair behind my ear and whispered, “I’m sorry. I forgot you asked me to wait until the fifth date.”
He became more vertical and dropped his hands around my waist pulling me to him. Locked in his arms, I felt so safe. “Forget I asked you to wait.” I did.
“No ma’am. I have to think you asked me that for a reason, and my girl needs to know I respect her.”
“Fine. But last night was a date… Did you say I’m your girl?”
“Do you want to be?”

Running Home Release - Dead Running Free

Running Home is now available! To celebrate the release, the first book in the series, Dead Running, is free until Saturday, April 20th. Dying to Run and Running Home are only $.99.

In Cassidy’s battle against human trafficking there are two choices: run or be captured.
Cassidy's humanitarian mission takes an ugly turn when human traffickers attack. Cassidy doesn’t know where to run—home to America, into Jesse’s arms, or any direction she can to escape the traffickers. Innocent families are being ripped apart and Cassidy must decide if she’s brave enough to stop running and join the fight.

"Cami Checketts has done it again! Running Home is fast-paced and action packed with enough romantic moments to satisfy any romance junkie. It's a wonderful third installment of the Run series and a really fun read.”
Rachael Anderson, Author of The Reluctant Bachelorette

Cassidy Christensen wants to run.
Captured by the traffickers who killed her mother, Cassidy's only hope is Dr. Tattoo, a man she loves but nobody trusts. When she finally gets a chance to run, someone else she cares about is taken. Running might be her only chance at survival, but Cassidy won't allow another family member to be killed in her place.

Cassidy Christensen is running.
Running from the mercenaries who killed her parents.
Running from a scheming redhead intent on making her life miserable.
Running from painful memories that sabotage her dreams of happiness.
With two very tempting men competing for her attention, she hopes she'll finally have someone to run to, but can she trust either of them? When secrets from her past threaten her family, Cassidy decides to stop running and fight for her future.

"Dead Running was everything I was hoping it would be, captivating, invigorating, and a page turner that I could not, would not, put down! Cami Checketts writes books that will make you think, and make you feel. She captivated me with The Sister Pact, and doesn't lose speed with her newest 'must read', Dead Running."
Sheila DeChantal, Book Reviewer - Book Journey

"Dead Running can make a claim not many mystery/thrillers can, and that is that it is also really funny. I loved everything about the book. There was murder, romance, family bonds, 5K training, humor, good guys, bad guys, and an ending that left room for a sequel."
Vicki, Book Reviewer - I'd Rather Be Reading At The Beach

APRIL 8 – 26th

A failed engagement sets seventeen-year-old Catherine Erichsen on a faith-building journey of self discovery as she follows her parents and other Mormon Saints on the 1863 immigration to America. When precious heirlooms start disappearing aboard the John J. Boyd, Catherine nearly loses her life at the hand of thieving sailors and fears she won’t live long enough to fulfill the desires of her heart.
My Review:
I really enjoyed Farewell, my Denmark. It was a good mix of family, religion, romance, mystery, and history. I'm hoping there's a sequel in the works with Catherine's sister as the heroine, I'm dying to know what happens to her. I would recommend this book, especially if you like historical fiction.
