The Avatar Battle by Chad Morris

The adventure continues when Abby and Derick begin their second semester at Cragbridge Hall, the most prestigious secondary school in the world. The year is 2074, and Abby and Derick are busy designing their own virtual worlds and learning to control new robot animal avatars, but when their Grandpa Cragbridge admits them into the Council of the Keys—a secret group of people who have keys to travel back in time—strange things begin to happen. One by one, members of the council are found unconscious and unable to wake, their keys stolen. Now Abby, Derick, mand their friends must scramble to figure out who is behind the attacks before they become the next victims, which would give their enemy the power to change the past—and forever alter the present and future.

A page-turning, time-travel adventure that teaches powerful lessons about choice and consequence, believing you can do hard things, and valuing history.

"A fantastical futuristic read that should engage kids and families."
—Brandon Mull, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fablehaven and Beyonders series
"A perfect blend of mystery, humor, and time travel. I want to go to Cragbridge Hall."
—Tyler Whitesides, bestselling author of the Janitors series
"A book that is similar enough to the Harry Potter story that it feels like a welcome home....A fun, inventive read."
—Deseret News

My Review:
These were really cute books. We hadn't read the first so my 11yo and I got caught up and enjoyed both of the books. I especially liked how the author weaved history in but kept the story entertaining with all the futuristic ways to learn at Cragbridge Hall. A fun read.

About the Author
Chad Morris would love to be able to control animal avatars, see history in 3D, and show everyone how he imagines stories. Since the inventions that would make that possible currently exist only in his imagination, he settles for reading, writing, playing basketball, rappelling down an occasional slot canyon, dating his wife, and hanging out with his five awesome kids.
Chad speaks Portuguese, can play the Phineas and Ferb theme song on the guitar, and does decent impressions of a velociraptor and Voldemort—but not at the same time. He isn’t very good at fixing his car, shopping for anything, cooking, or growing hair.
