Presents for me and you on my son's birthday

Today is my oldest son's birthday. 17! How in the world did that happen? He's a great kid, but he's not getting many birthday or Christmas presents this year because he's going to an amazing lacrosse tournament in Florida the week after Christmas. I told him, "If you want to go, we'll make it happen, but this means no birthday, no Christmas, no money for school lunch, no Mom or Dad taking pity and filling your car with gas." He grinned and said, "Thanks, Mom. This is a dream for me." How do you not try to make their dreams come true?
Instead of Denver getting presents today, I got a huge one! A box filled with books, movies, and a beautiful statue of the Savior. Wow. Thank you Deseret Book!

Delectable - Three Ingredient Appetizer

I stole this fabulous appetizer recipe from my niece. It is so easy and delectable!
Creamy Sausage Dip
Brown 1-lb sausage, mix with a package of cream cheese and a can of Rotel and crockpot on low for two hours. Serve with tortilla chips.
My boys just die over it.

Speaking of my boys and delectable. I pilfered that word from my nine-year old, Stockton. He tells me dinner is delectable if it's good or digestible if it's not! He's such a funny kid I decided to base the little boy in my new Christmas book, Oh, Come On - Be Faithful, off of him. I don't normally use real people for characters, but it just fit perfectly to pattern it after my happy, redheaded boy who changes the words to every Christmas song.
You can buy Oh, Come On - Be Faithful on Amazon for only $2.99 or if you're a prime member, borrow for free.

Oh, Come On - Be FaithfulFormer Army security expert Matt Degan is in desperate need of a Christmas miracle. His ex-wife cleaned out his savings account and abandoned their son. Sadly, he has no presents stashed.

When he finds a job as a bodyguard for Mikayla Lambert, a billionaire heiress who has been tormented by a stalker for four years, he’s caught up in family drama that threatens this beautiful woman he’s becoming enamored with and might also endanger his son. Can Matt protect everyone and save Christmas for his son, or will the stalker succeed at kidnapping Mikayla and destroying any chance at love between them?

I'm also thrilled to announce the release of my first Billionaire Bride Pact book, The Resilient One. I'm writing this series with my amazing friend, Jeanette Lewis, who came up with the idea of twelve friends making a pact at summer camp to marry only billionaires or they'd have to sing the humiliating Camp Wallakee song at their wedding without telling anyone why. Jeanette's book, The Passionate One, is also available now.

The Resilient One by Cami Checketts
Alyssa Armsworth, a world-renowned photographer, has no intentions of honoring the Billionaire Bride Pact she made as a teenager to avoid getting her bra hung from the camp flagpole. Marriage is the last thing on her to-do list and when her father forces his wealthy friends on her, she runs to Maui.

She plans to lay low, take some great pictures, and eat fresh fish--until Beckham Taylor arrives. Stuck in the same hotel and spending days on the white sand with the handsome ex-NHL star wouldn't be all that bad except Alyssa's done something in the past that Beckham could never forgive. Before she can confess, her misdeeds are thrust onto the front cover of a well-known magazine. Alyssa must overcome her fears or live without Beckham.

Available now for only $2.99 - Amazon or free for Prime and KOLL members.

The Passionate One by Jeanette Lewis
As the creator of the Billionaire Bride Pact, Erin Parker is determined to see it through. And now that wealthy, gorgeous Brennan Avery has been cast as her costar in a play destined for Broadway, things couldn’t be better. But Erin’s best friend, Matt Walters, isn’t ready to give up on her. He has a plan to escape the friend zone and prove to Erin that there are more important things than money and fame.

A Rare Nativity

A Rare Nativity
by Sam Beeson, Photographs by Terral Cochran, Nina Cochran
On Sale Date: September 8, 2015
9781629720623/HC/All Ages $17.99

A visual artist’s unforgettable twist on “The Twelve Days of Christmas” using photographs of ordinary objects of trash — rusty rough-hewn nails, shards of glass, broken tools —sent along with messages of revenge against an enemy which are all sent back from the enemy assembled into a traditional Nativity crèche and an unexpected request from the enemy: Forgiveness. Author Sam Beeson asks us to completely change the paradigm of spending and gift-giving during the holidays and invites us to grant open-hearted forgiveness as the greatest gift we can offer during Christmas.

 My Review:
Wow. This was not what I was expecting but I loved it and my nine-year old son loved it too. It's such a touching way to show that we can turn hatred into love and can always forgive. It helped me to try to look past offenses and find the good.

3 Tips to Simplify & Savor the Season

3 Tips to Simplify & Savor the Season by Connie E. Sokol

The holidays are upon us and like many women, my mature response often goes like this: panic, stare, shudder and roll over, desperately clutching a tin of Danish butter cookies.
But no more. This year, women can enjoy the holidays with a few simple and useable tips.
Step 1. Focus on a feeling
This seemingly warm, fuzzy consideration might be overlooked but is actually the underlying driver of a memorable holiday. Answer this question ahead of time: What feeling do I and my family want to experience and remember the most this holiday season?
The particular feeling isn’t as crucial as being intentional about it. Choose a feeling that fits your needs or desires: peaceful, exciting, joyful or spiritually grounding.
What matters most is that you choose what matters to you and your family. Then ask each member to choose one family tradition that is the most meaningful. As you enjoy those traditions, each person will experience that personally satiated, contented feeling.
2. Get the family buy-in.
Too often women feel solely responsible for creating a successful holiday season. But when we involve our families, they feel more joy, create memories, and learn life skills. To do this takes getting the buy-in — meaning holding a semi-official meeting to ensure that with time, energy and enthusiasm, the family will put aside electronics to help hang the holly wreaths.
The holidays are for family, so let them help. Let go of your inner controlling Mrs. Claus, and understand that even she uses elves (I have it on good authority). When everyone pitches in, each can enjoy the experience and you can let go of "The Mom Show." Not only is that a gift here and now for you, but it is also a future gift for your children, because they will use those life skills year after year and prepare them to be stellar adults (and relieve your holiday stress).
3. Keep it simple
Especially during the holidays, conventional wisdom encourages women to consciously review and reduce their expectations, because emotional and physical overload can create “yo-yo” emotions. Too much to do combined with the desire to please too many people can create a lose-lose situation.
So the point here is, to keep it simple. Ask yourself:
Am I doing this to create family memories or for show?
Am I making this because I love my family or to check it off the list?
Am I being present in the moment and enjoying this event or am I thinking ahead to when it will be done, or planning the next thing?
Consider how much holiday stress you’ll eliminate by focusing on those who matter most and not on how someone might perceive you or your item, event or decor.
The holidays can be a time of joy and peace and giving. With a bit of simple organization and intentional savoring, we can experience just that.

Happy Holidays,

There's no way she's giving up the animal therapy business she's been struggling to make profitable. She gets a temp job helping Jonah in the gallery. Spending time together is a recipe for romance, but can they overcome their own hangups to be more than friends?

Stealing Adda by Tamara Leigh
WRITER’S BLOCK, NIBBLED NAILS, PLAGIARISM, OH MY! AND DID I MENTION ROMANCE? Life for Adda Sinclaire, New York Times best-selling author and historical romance writer extraordinaire, reads more like a country song than a breathless, bodice-bursting affair. For starters, she has no romance in her own life. That might have something to do with the fact that her husband—correction, ex-husband—ran off with Stick Woman, whom everyone knew would never be more than a mid-list author anyway. To add insult to injury (and another verse to the country song), her ex not only took their dog but gave it to Stick Woman. If that isn't enough, Adda has come down with a horrible case of writer's block, finds herself gifted with a Bible that is determined to speak to her, and is the unwitting target of a romance cover model's misdirected advances. Just when she catches her breath—and quite possibly the eye of a certain fabulously good-looking man (ahem…her new editor)—her arch-nemesis gives the pot one final stir.

Spy by Night by Jordan McCollum
After watching her parents’ marriage crash and burn, CIA operative Talia Reynolds doesn’t believe in “happily ever afters.” Besides, her job entails eighty-hour weeks, juggling a dozen covers and disguises, and tracking down a dangerous Russian spy ring. She hardly has time for romantic entanglements, even if she could let her guard down enough to get close to anyone. But all the rules she lives by could be broken when she meets aerospace engineer Danny Fluker.
Danny moved to Canada for a great job — and a chance to start over after a bad breakup. Dating definitely isn’t in his plans . . . until beautiful and enigmatic Talia throws a perfect storm right in his flight path. When he catches a glimpse of the real woman behind her façade, he has to get to know her better.
Talia has to find a Russian spymaster before he figures out she’s not who she claims, and failing to keep her two lives separate in the process could mean the death of more than just her budding relationship. Danny has to decide if a future with Talia — and facing the past — is worth the risk of getting hurt again. If they can break through the barriers keeping them apart (and avoid a major international catastrophe), they just might have a chance at being happy together.
