  • Don't Fall for a Fugitive

I'm stoked about my newest release, Don't Fall for a Fugitive. It's the third in my new Strong Family Romance series. I made up my own valley and ski resort in Colorado for this series but I patterned the town after Crested Butte, Colorado. Have you ever been there? I love that spot so much. I've set several books there. I took my mom, dad, and sister on a trip there a couple of years ago and we had the best time exploring the mountains, swimming in freezing mountain lakes, hiking the ski resort, and enjoying downtown (especially the ice cream shop;). I've pasted in a collage of pictures below. What's your favorite mountain spot?

  • New Release - Her Loyal Protector

📷 Today is the day! I've been so excited to share this new book with you. I hope you all love it as much as I do. It's deeper than some I've written but the payoff and the anguish they go through is so worth it in the end. Oh, my. I get tingles just thinking about it ;).  Hugs, Cami 📷 Pregnant, alone, and suddenly a billionaire, Kaytlyn Klein has to trust the tough, too-attractive former military specialist, Cameron Bodily, or risk losing more than just her fortune and her charitable foundation. Fast-paced, intense, and thought-provoking this new clean romance by Cami Checketts will have you laughing and crying. Buy Now Excerpt: Kaytlyn Klein rushed through the wide halls of Jacob Tarbet’s mansion. She’d worked for Jacob for almost ten years now, though for the past five he’d treated her more like a partner than an employee. He’d found her waiting tables in his hometown of Sun Valley, where she’d been scraping by just trying to earn enough money to ski on the weekends. Jacob had become a regular customer. Then he’d seen her buying lunch for a family whose child had just been diagnosed with leukemia. He hired her as his personal assistant on the spot, paid for her online bachelor’s degree in business, and taught her how to run his businesses and how to be poised and classy. He was the smartest, most generous, and most selfless person she knew. Jacob and his daughter, Jessica, were Kaytlyn’s closest friends. Horrifically, Jacob was dying. Kaytlyn was also expecting Jessica’s baby, a surrogate for Jessica and her husband, Peter. It still felt foreign to be pregnant and she touched her abdomen, awed that a small life rested inside. She knew she’d be attached to the little one, like a favorite aunt, but she found herself wishing, and sometimes believing, it was her own baby she carried. She forced those thoughts away quickly when she had them. What a blessing it was for Kaytlyn to be able to help someone she loved so much achieve their goal of being a mother.  As she approached Jacob’s suite, she startled when a man stepped forward from the nook of the suite’s doorframe, his handsome face lit with a soft smile. Her heart pounded so hard, she worried she would have heart failure and this fabulous specimen of a man would have to resuscitate her. She smiled to herself. Not a bad idea at all.  “Good morning, Cameron,” she said, winking at him. She loved to tease the ever-tough military man, and she was happy that she could still tease despite the heaviness pressing down on her. Cameron was serious and dedicated to his job of protecting Jacob, but there was a mischievous glint in his eyes that intensified when he met Kaytlyn’s gaze. She’d heard a couple of funny quips slip past his lips too, and if she could get him away from his protection detail, he might be really fun. For almost two years now, she’d been deftly flirting with him, but he hadn’t asked her out … yet. “Morning, Kaytlyn.” His too-blue eyes drew her in, and she stopped in front of him instead of hurrying into Jacob’s suite to check in with her boss as she did every morning. “I’ve been thinking.” “Dangerous pastime,” she joked. He grinned. “I’ve got plenty of those. I’m hoping I can add another.” “What’s that?” “Taking you to dinner tonight.” Kaytlyn bit at her lip and tilted her head. Her long blond hair slid across her shoulder. “That might be dangerous for me,” she kept her tone teasing so he’d know she admired his well-built body and wasn’t afraid of him. She wanted to go to dinner with him, badly. She was only a month along and wouldn’t show for a while now. Would Cameron think she was crazy to carry her friend’s child or would he think it was admirable? Would he still want to date her when she started showing?  “No, I’d be the only one in danger.” He lowered his voice and murmured, “Of losing my heart.” Kaytlyn’s own heart thudded wildly. She couldn’t believe this tough military man had just said that. Instead of admitting that she was already much too invested in him, she said, “I don’t know nearly enough about you.”   Cameron’s eyebrows rose. “You hired me. I’d think you know plenty about me.” She had indeed hired him and four other ex-military security specialists from an entity out of California run by philanthropist Sutton Smith. While the men were all tough and competent, only Cameron had drawn her eye in the past two years; he tried to stay in the shadows when he was on duty to protect her billionaire boss, yet she never failed to notice him. Cameron’s presence was larger than life, from his well-built body to the strong, handsome planes of his face to the intelligent, humorous spark in his blue eyes. He couldn’t hide in the shadows, nor anywhere else. Though he was a soldier through and through, it was obvious that he was meant to be a leader. “I know you graduated from West Point, spent almost ten years in the Army, took two tours in Afghanistan and one in Kuwait, and achieved the rank of sergeant before you retired three years ago and started working for Sutton Smith.” Cameron nodded, as stoic as ever, but there was a welcoming light in his blue eyes. “See? You know plenty about me.” “Do I?” She took a large step closer. She knew Cameron was trustworthy—the fact that her body automatically drew toward him was proof. He didn’t step back, instead leaning a little closer. He was interested. Yes! She hadn’t dated much since high school graduation, choosing to work hard and spend her free time on the slopes in the winter and hiking in the summer. She’d gone on dates sometimes and traveled the world with Jacob, but no man had really caught her eye until she hired Cameron. Kaytlyn said, “I don’t know what your favorite food is, where your family lives, what sports you like to play, or what you like to do on dates.” A smile played around Cameron’s lips, and his eyes were dancing. “How are you going to find out those things?” She breathed in deeply; she was close enough that she could smell his clean, crisp scent. “When we go to dinner tonight, I’ll be able to ask all kinds of questions.” Cameron’s smile lit up his face, and Kaytlyn’s eyes widened. She’d always thought he was handsome. When his full smile came out, he was the most irresistibly appealing man she’d ever come across. “Six?” was all he asked, but that smile told her everything she needed to know.Keep Reading

  • NEW RELEASE!

Don't Date Your Brother's Best Friend - A lifelong crush revealed. Will he make her dreams come true or shatter her heart? I loved writing this new book, the start to the Strong family series. Ella and Trey were hilarious and so cute together. Of course their path to finding happily ever after wasn't easy, but is it ever? You can find the latest release on my Amazon for only $.99 today! Grab a copy and read Don't Date Your Brother's Best Friend to find out if THIS romance novel has a "happily ever after". Let me know what you think! https://amzn.to/2MGRTYZ Excerpt: Trey unfolded his arms and walked closer. He extended his hand and opened his palm. A pink-and-green twisted bracelet was in his hand. Ella’s eyes flickered from his hand to his face in surprise. He stepped right up to her. “Do you remember?” he asked, his voice husky and his blue eyes full of meaning. Ella’s heart about stopped. “Of course I remember,” she whispered. “Remember what?” Gavin growled from behind them. “Before I left the valley at eighteen, Ella gave me a bracelet.” He spoke up for Gavin, but his gaze was all for Ella. “I still have it.” “You do?” The bracelet had been like this one, pink and green twisted together, but she’d made it by hand. She’d told him then it was a friendship bracelet so he didn’t forget her, all the while praying he’d read through the lines and know she loved him with all of her twelve-year-old heart. He nodded very seriously, especially for Trey. He lifted her hand and placed the bracelet in her palm, closing her fingers over it. Her hand tingled from his warm touch and the meaningful look in his eyes. He still had the bracelet? And he’d been thoughtful enough to buy her one? He must’ve gotten it from the gift shop downstairs when she’d run up to see Austin. He’d probably seen it and bought it on impulse. It shouldn’t mean so much, but it did. “I wanted you to have one too,” he said softly. “Thank you,” was all she could manage. “Don’t you need to be going?” Gavin asked impatiently. Trey arched his eyebrows, still focused on Ella and still cupping her hand with his. “I’ve got a group going out on a mountain bike ride in a little less than an hour. Do you want to come?” He knew her so well. She absolutely wanted to come, and she absolutely wanted to spend time with him. He released her hand and stepped back, which sadly broke the spell he had her under. “Unfortunately, that loser Marcus is in the group, but I’ll keep you safe from him,” he said. “I don’t need your help staying safe,” she said with as much sass as she could manage, knowing it was what they’d expect from her. The bracelet was still in her hand, though, and she wanted to put it on and show him how much she cared for him, even if she couldn’t verbalize it. “I’m not only an expert at pepper spray; I took some self-defense classes in college. I could kick your trash and have you begging for mercy.” Trey’s eyebrows lifted as Gavin laughed softly. Trey’s smoldering eyes said he not only wasn’t afraid of her; he could make her so weak with longing she’d forget all those self-defense tactics. “You always have me begging for mercy, beautiful Ella.” Ella’s heart raced and her palms grew damp. The Trey of her childhood had never talked like this to her. He’d teased her and been her friend, but the new and—dared she hope?—meaningful look in his blue eyes and his flirtatious words were going to be the death of her susceptible heart. Was it possible for a healthy twenty-two-year-old to have a heart attack from sheer hot man factor? “That’s enough,” Gavin growled before Ella could formulate a semi-intelligent response. Trey simply smiled. He probably knew her gruff brother better than anyone else did and wasn’t intimidated by him like most of the world. “You in for the ride?” Trey asked, focusing on Ella. “S-sure,” she stuttered out. “Great. Meet you in the parking lot in forty-five minutes.” Ella backed away. “I’d better put my stuff away and change.” “Austin,” Gavin commanded. “Take Ella to the house and show her her room. I’ll get a bike ready for you, sis.” “Thanks.” Ella gave him one more impulsive hug. He wasn’t a hugger, but he’d always been soft for his sisters and Austin. She figured he needed the human contact, so she always hugged him. Releasing him, she took Austin’s outstretched hand, and with her free hand she clung to her bracelet. “This way, my lovely lady.” Ella laughed. They walked past Trey, and he smiled. “See you soon, my lovely lady.” “Th-thanks.” Ella stuttered on even the simple response. Keep reading here.

  • I love football!

I've loved football since I was a small child. My daddy used to take us to football games every weekend, a two and a half hour drive each way. We didn't care about the drive, we just wanted to hear the rumble of the stadium, eat hot dogs, scream like maniacs for our team, and most of all be with our dad. One week my older brother and I both thought it was our turn to go. I had five siblings and we only had four tickets. My dad sat me down and told me if I let my brother go he'd let me get my ears pierced (he'd been adamant against ear piercing). I was twelve and dumb and I opted for the ear piercing ;). We still laugh about that as I wear earrings so rarely the holes in my ears have grown in! Do you love football also? If you love football romance, I've got a killer deal for you today. Six of my football romances for only $.99 or free in Kindle Unlimited. Find the collection on Amazon. Hugs and happy reading, Cami

  • Free Today - The Gentle Patriot

📷Happy Friday my friends! We had our last lacrosse and football games for the season this week so I'm thinking it's time to hunker down in the warm house and read. Doesn't that sound lovely? Now to talk my boys into it. ;) Thanks for the unreal support of The Pursued Patriot! I love this book so much and it was fun to have the crossover with some of my Steele Family friends. Here's what one reviewer had to say: "Cami Checketts hit another one out of the park. Hot, powerful men who know how to be gentle; sassy, spicy women who flirt and play; and another dose of Lottie Steele wraps up the whole. There’s reparte, teasing, peril, and hot kissing mixed in with football heroes and a small look at the glory that is Hilton Head, gators and all. I loved the different elements of this story and how they all came together." Lolly G. Today The Gentle Patriot is free to celebrate the last Patriots release for me, and the audio book version of The Gentle Patriot is now available so lots of reasons to celebrate. There were often runners and bikers along these trails, but it was usually pretty quiet this early in the morning. The person coming was tall and built. She felt a little twinge of worry and fingered the pepper spray in her pocket. The man got closer, and in the pre-dawn light, she could see smooth, brown skin in a tank top and shorts, and the most handsome face on the planet. Mike Kohler. Her heart leaped with excitement, even as she told herself she should just stay away and not push him toward nominating her for the asylum. Did they even have asylums any more, or was that politically incorrect? Hmm. She’d have to Google that. Mike’s gaze met hers, and he blinked in surprise. Slowing, he stopped in front of her. “Hey,” he said softly. “Oh, hey.” She wanted to say something funny but didn’t want to scare him away again. He tilted his chin at her and gave a very forced smile. “These trails are great.” “Yeah. I’m a lucky duck getting to live here and run the trails or the beach every morning. Show off my superhuman speed.” She pumped her eyebrows. “I’m faster than Dash. You know, from the Incredibles?” “For sure.” His smile seemed a little softer. Apparently, he at least appreciated her goofy sense of humor. “Do you want to race?” she asked. He actually laughed. It was a great laugh. “You do realize I run the forty in under four-forty.” “Ooh.” She pursed her lips and pretended a shudder. Yes, she knew that. She knew most of his stats. “That is fast. Come on then, let’s see it.” She took off running as hard as she could. She knew he could easily catch her, and maybe he’d think she was crazy again for trying to race him, but it was super fun to banter with him, and him chasing after her would fulfill so many fantasies. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw he was watching her with a bemused smile. She beckoned to him. “Come on! Don’t make me beat you, superstar.” He pushed off then and sprinted toward her. His eyes changed quickly from laughing to concerned. “Shar!” he yelled, pointing. Shar turned back around and realized that the path had curved, and she was flirting with the edge. The edge that went down to one of the many lagoons next to these paths, lagoons that were full of alligators. Shar screamed and tried to correct her footing, but she was already sliding in the loose gravel down the steep incline. She could spot several alligators. One was half out of the water not far below her, and the scream caught in her throat as icy horror encased her body and seemed to seal off her vocal cords. Mike’s hand shot out and grabbed her arm, easily hauling her back up the hill. Shar scrambled for solid footing and landed back on the trail with Mike’s arm wrapped around her lower back. She flung both arms around his neck and buried her face in his chest. “Big teeth, alligators, scary, bite my head off,” she stuttered out, trembling as she clung to him. Mike held her close and murmured, “It’s okay. I’ve got you.” His strong arms around her felt so safe and secure, and the trembling gradually changed from fear of becoming an alligator’s breakfast to the euphoria of him holding her close. She knew she worked too much and didn’t date often, but she was certain this was an over-the-top hug. The tingly, good feelings that Mike’s body infused into her as he held her had never been matched with previous manly embraces. He smelled wonderful, clean and crisp, and she wanted to just bury her head in his chest and never let go. He stepped back first. Of course, he did, but he stared down at her with such protection and depth in his gaze, she almost fell back into the alligator-filled pond. “You’re okay,” he muttered. “I didn’t even get a toe, or a finger, nibbled off,” she reassured him. He chuckled, and then he was hugging her again. Wow. She’d take a near-miss with an alligator to have this kind of attention from Mike. Closing her eyes, she just hung on for as long as he’d let her. • My author friends

I have been so blessed with amazing friends in all aspects of my life. My author friends are no exception. They are kind, supportive, uplifting, and fun. We probably sound like crazy women as we talk about our characters as if they're real people. At one lunch with Lucy McConnell my husband and his friend ended up sitting with us. After about twenty minutes the friend said, "Please tell me the people they're talking about aren't real?" Stan laughed and said, "No, they all live in their heads." The friend said, "Oh, thank you, I was about ready to call the police!" I'm so grateful for my amazing friends. We did a fun author event at Millcreek Library a week ago and Jennifer Youngblood's husband recorded it for us. Her awesome son, Auston, is our moderator. You can watch it here but just be prepared that I respond like a goofball half the time! I was too intrigued by my friends' responses to stop and think about what I was saying ;). Here's a picture of us below. Yes, I'm definitely lobbying for the next picture that I not be put on the end next to darling, tiny Sarah Gay. Hugs, Cami

  • New Release! How to Switch a Groom

📷Yay for today! I have been waiting to share this new book with you and hope you love it as much as I do. The first book in this series, How to Design Love, was published a couple of years ago. I think most of you have read it, but if you missed it, find it free here. It was Colt and Brikelle's story where she was terrified of dogs and he has a huge Great Dane and they're forced to fake a marriage.  How to Switch a Groom is book 2 (With Cally and Tate - Colt's first love and brother) and I had so much fun writing it. Book 3, How to Lose a Fiance will be out next week. Hugs and thanks for all the support, Cami 📷 A million-dollar challenge; a proposal she’ll never get; and the only man she’s meant to love. Cally Young returns to her small hometown after five years and is given an insane challenge—a million dollars for her charity if she gets a marriage proposal out of Tate Jepson. Tate has grown into the most incredible and appealing man she’s ever met, but she knows the proposal will never happen. Tate despises her because she broke his older brother’s heart and ditched all of the Jepson brothers for her career. There’s nothing she can do to make it right and Tate doesn’t hesitate to let her know that. Tate Jepson has loved Cally Young as long as he can remember. There is just one problem—Cally was always destined to marry his older brother. When Cally ditches all of them and breaks Colt’s heart Tate tries to convince himself he hates her, but she may be too irresistible for him to resist. When Cally is kidnapped for a hefty ransom, Tate realizes what’s important and prays he can somehow rescue the only woman he’s ever loved. Buy Now Excerpt: How to Switch a Groom “What are you doing here?” A deep voice came from her right. Cally squinted against the evening sunlight haloing the man’s dark reddish brown hair and focused on the face of Tate Jepson. Colt’s brother, and definitely not a Cally fan, at least not anymore. Tate had been a beautiful child, a handsome teenager, and a near perfect young adult, but to see him as a man made her stomach drop and her heart race, as if she’d just been thrown off a cliff. His chestnut hair was thick, framing his model-handsome face perfectly. His startling blue eyes were shadowed by thick, dark lashes and dark brows that she’d think were waxed if she didn’t know Tate so well. He was perfectly beautiful but too tough to be a pretty boy. “Pretty boy” had been a common taunt from his brothers, for which he’d always gotten into a brawl. Five years had passed since she’d seen Tate. The years had been more than kind to him, whereas she felt like she’d just gotten beaten up inside and out as she’d clawed her way to the top of the design world. She’d often heard about how gorgeous and thin she was, but all she saw in the mirror were sharp lines and hollowed-out hardness. What are you doing here? Tate’s question hit her right in the gut. What was she doing here indeed? At this point she wished she could slink away and not have anyone know she’d braved an appearance at her ex’s engagement party. “I was invited by the future bride,” she said, hoping to tease a smile out of him as she gave him the sparkling smile to which he used to always respond. Tate had been one of her best friends and always done anything she asked. If only they could go back to those carefree days of friendship. “And you?” “On the groom’s side.” His returning smile was grim as he brushed his hand through his luscious locks. Cally knew it was an unconscious gesture that he repeated often. What she wouldn’t give to touch his hair. The brush of his hair also showed off how well his suit fit him. The dark blue suit molded breathtakingly to his toned, tall body. She would love to see if that shoulder was as broad and firm as it looked through the fabric. Oh, my, goodness! What was she thinking? This was her childhood buddy and Colt’s brother. She couldn’t be running her hands through his hair or touching his shoulder. Obviously, she wasn’t as hurt over Colt moving on as she’d imagined if she was blatantly checking out his brother. Tate was a generous, fun and smart man who had been like a brother to her as well. What was wrong with her? She took a sip of her lemonade to ease the dryness in her throat. “Truly? Bri invited you?” Tate asked. Cally nodded tightly. She’d been as shocked as Tate was now acting when Brikelle stopped by the design shop Cally recently started working at in downtown Ogden to invite her to the engagement party. Brikelle had handed her invitations to the engagement party and the wedding, expressing her hope that they could be friends. She was adorable and sweet. Cally found herself liking the girl despite the jealousy she felt. Two weeks from tonight, Colt and Brikelle were getting married right here at Emmaline’s home in Eden, Utah, in the picturesque mountain valley above Ogden, then going on a two-week honeymoon to Kauai. Cally tried not to think about how it should’ve been her picture-perfect wedding, should’ve been her fun-filled honeymoon, should’ve been her loving and devoted groom. Brikelle had not only taken Cally’s man but also the exclusive interior design jobs Cally’s Uncle Joshua had promised her if she relocated. Cally had almost packed up and flown back to Chicago when Colt explained to her that he’d fallen in love with Brikelle. Yet coming home had made her question if she wanted that fast-paced life anymore. She’d missed Eden, especially the deep friendships she’d known with the Jepson brothers. She’d secured a job with a design company in Ogden, but she wasn’t sure which direction she should take her life, and starting her charity seemed as far away as ever. “My future sister-in-law is a saint,” Tate muttered. Cally glared up at him. “Excuse me?” Tate arched an eyebrow. “You heard me. That Bri can be compassionate to the likes of you.” He whistled and shook his head. “She’s on a rocket ship straight to heaven in my book.” Cally’s neck heated up, and she gripped her glass even harder. Obviously, not only did Tate not idolize her anymore, he didn’t think she even deserved compassion. Any desire to touch his hair or shoulder disappeared with a poof of anger and humiliation. “I despise you, Tate Jepson,” she ground out. It was immature and petty, something she might have flung at him when she was twelve and he’d put frogs in her sleeping bag. That day he’d apologized and she’d easily forgiven him. Right now she felt so alone and miserable. She needed him to be her friend like he used to be. Apparently, that wasn’t happening. He grinned and tilted his glass to her, taking a sip of the cola in it. “Likewise. You look good, Cally. Hopefully I won’t see you for at least another five years.” His eyes were mocking, but there was some deep-seated hurt in them as well. He sauntered away, and she fumed. Tate was too handsome with that deep red hair, tanned skin and blue eyes, too smart with his fancy Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree and all the awards she was constantly hearing about him receiving, too wealthy in his impeccable Brioni suit that fit his perfect body like a glove, and entirely too pompous for his own good. A redhead and a brunette rushed up to him and squealed, each hugging him in turn. Tate looked over the brunette’s mop of hair and met Cally’s gaze. He winked at her and tilted his chin up, acknowledging that he knew she’d been staring. Jerk. Keep Reading

  • I made it!

Yesterday was absolutely amazing and the great news is I finished! I was hoping for 11 hours, planning on worst case 15, and my time was 9:41. I was thrilled. My amazing friends and sisters-in-law ran all but eight miles with me. I get a little emotional thinking about how grateful I am to those sweet ladies. They all had to either wake up at 4:30 a.m. or drive to find me and take time out of their busy days. I loved the run so much I'm already thinking about next year. My poor husband doesn't want to think about next year ;). He ran support and shuttled friends back and forth for almost ten hours. He's the best. I'm really spoiled and grateful. I'll paste in some pics of my sweet friends below. I wish I had a pic of my honey :)

  • 45-Miler Baby!

Today's the day my friends! I'm running 45 miles to celebrate my 45th birthday tomorrow. While you're reading this I'm probably waddling along the road, wondering why I ever thought a 45 mile run was a good idea.  I thought it would be fun to celebrate my run with a sale on books with a runner in them. A few years ago I wrote an article about why I love to run with a pic of me running. I'll paste them in below. If you also love to run I'd love to hear why. If you think I'm nuts please say a prayer for me. Hugs, Cami 1. Life goes too fast, running makes it feel slower. 2. There are sometimes blissful moments when I feel like I’m flying and running doesn’t hurt. 3. Running opens my mind and I can process, dream, and imagine. 4. Running makes me feel like a tough woman. 5. Running helps me justify eating more chocolate! 6. When I get the chance to run with friends we can solve issues like you wouldn’t believe. Everything from getting our babies to sleep through the night to whittling down the national debt. 7. Running races is absolutely miserable but you feel amazing after you’re done, like you’ve conquered the world. 8. I get to buy cute running clothes. 9. I love meeting new friends when I run races. The ones who will actually pull out their iPods and chat are my favorites because it’s kind of awkward yelling over their music that you want to be their friend. 10.To steal a quote from Oprah Winfrey, “Running is the greatest metaphor for life because you get out of if what you put into it.” Too true. 📷 📷Buy Now for $.99📷Buy Now for $.99 📷Buy Now for $.99📷Buy Now for $.99📷Buy Now for $.99📷Buy Now for $.99
